Moving Out Protocol for Residents
Overview
This protocol outlines the necessary steps and procedures for residents moving out of the premises to ensure a smooth and efficient process. It includes guidelines for notice periods, property inspections, utility disconnections, key returns, and final settlements.
1. Notice of Intent to Vacate
- Required Notice: Residents must provide written notice of their intent to vacate at least 30 days prior to their intended move-out date.
- Submission: The notice should be submitted via the Moving Out? link or a formal letter certified mail to the Block Management office.
2. Pre-Move-Out Inspection
- Scheduling: Residents must schedule a pre-move-out inspection with the superintendent at least two weeks before the move-out date.
- Inspection Checklist: The inspection will cover the condition of walls, floors, appliances, fixtures, and any other relevant aspects of the property.

- Living Areas: Vacuum carpets, mop hard floors, dust surfaces, and remove any personal belongings.
- Professional Cleaning: In some cases, professional cleaning may be required. Residents will be responsible for cleaning the apartment prior to move out.
4. Utility Disconnections
- Final Readings: Residents must arrange for final readings of all utility meters (electricity, gas, water) on their move-out date.
- Disconnection Notices: Residents must notify all utility providers of their move-out date to ensure disconnections and final billing. Any past due billing or failure to notify the utlilty company will result in fofeture of said amount from security deposit.
- Forwarding Address: Provide utility companies with a forwarding address for any final bills or refunds.
5. Key Return
- Returning Keys: All keys, including front door keys, mailbox keys, and any other access keys, must be returned to the property management office on the move-out date.
- Lost Keys: Any lost keys will incur a replacement fee, which will be deducted from the security deposit.
6. Final Inspection and Move-Out
- Final Inspection: A final inspection will be conducted on the move-out date to ensure all conditions are met and there are no outstanding issues.
- Security Deposit: The security deposit, minus any deductions for damages or unpaid rent, will be refunded within 14 days of the move-out date. Deposits will be sent via USPS first class mail. Block Management is not responsible for delayed or lost mail. If you wish to ensure the check reaches your forwarding address, please email a USPS Priority Pre-Paid Label to Info@Block.nyc and we will send it via Priority Mail.
7. Forwarding Information
- Forwarding Address: Residents must provide a forwarding address for the return of the security deposit.
- Mail Forwarding: Residents should also set up mail forwarding with their local post office. Any mail sent to address after the move out date will be returned to the Post Office.

- Personal Belongings: Ensure all personal belongings are removed from the property. Any items left behind may be disposed of at the resident's expense.
